Jerry Maloney

Gerald Patrick Maloney, 62, of Washington passed away on Monday, Nov. 4, 2013. Jerry was born on October 31, 1951 in Peoria, IL to Herod and Louise (Blair) Maloney. He married Sharon (Shari) Moehle on March 4, 1989 in Washington, IL. Jerry is survived by his wife Shari and daughters Kerry Maloney of New Orleans, LA and Samantha Austin Carroll (Dan) of Chicago, IL. Also surviving, his Uncle William Blair of West Peoria, brothers Larry Maloney, Brad Maloney and Bret (Carol) Maloney of Pekin, IL, Scott Peterson of Thailand, Colin Peterson (Sandy) of Georgetown, SC and sister-in-law Patricia Moehle of Washington. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, Donald "Pete" Peterson, stepbrother Donald Peterson II and brother-in-law, Gary Moehle. Jerry was a graduate of Metamora Township High School and a 1973 graduate of SIU ? Carbondale. Before starting his teaching career, he spent his summers as an Iron Worker. He taught Science at Academy of our Lady/Spalding Institute for 15 years, was Plant Manager at Mericon Industries for 11 years, taught Anatomy & Physiology part-time at ICC for 10+ years and retired from Tazewell County Health Department as a Food Service Supervisor after 14 years. Teaching and helping others was his greatest passion. Jerry loved gardening, photography, working with stained glass, reading and spending time with his family, which he was looking forward to doing more of in his retirement. He was also a member of Crossroads United Methodist Church. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Visitation Services for Jerry will be on Friday, November 8 from 4 to 7pm at Mason-White Funeral home in Washington. A memorial service will immediately follow, officiated by Pastor Bob DeBolt. Cremation rights have been accorded. A graveside service will be Saturday, November 9 at 11am at Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Memorial contributions may be made to the ICC Educational Foundation for the Jerry P. Maloney Memorial Scholarship.
