Noma “Jean” Kirk, 88, of Washington, Illinois, passed away at 8:10 pm on Friday, April 24, 2026, at Mason City Area Nursing Home in Mason City, Illinois.

She was born on May 13, 1937, in Sesser, Illinois, the daughter of Robert and Ruby Taylor Jones. She married Ken Kirk on June 11, 1955, in Sesser. He passed away in 2006. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Jones Jr. and Duane Jones. One daughter-in-law, Barb Kirk, and one infant granddaughter, Danielle Kirk.

Surviving are one daughter, Denise (Bruce) Bartman of New Holland; two sons, Mark (Myra Kay Hare) Kirk of Washington and Kevin (Renelle) Kirk of San Jose; and four grandchildren, Lindsay (Cassie) Lucchesi, Andrew (Nicole) Bartman, Samantha (Aaron) Bell, and Brian (Charlie) Kirk-Martin. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren: Ilaunna, Lilly, Camden, Kendall Jean, Micah, Elodie, and Everett. Further surviving are two sisters, Janet Burzynski and Sharon Cockrum, along with a host of nieces and nephews.

She was a member of Crossroads Global Methodist Church in Washington. She dedicated many years to singing in church choirs and participating in community singing events, sharing her joyful voice with others. She spent several years working as a postal clerk in San Jose and later joined the cafeteria staff at Washington Community High School. She always had a knack for starting a conversation with anyone, at any time. She loved her faith and family. She treasured many special moments in life, especially loving those happy times spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service is scheduled for 11 am on Monday, May 4, 2026, at Crossroads Global Methodist Church, with pastors Jason Woolever and Danny Cox officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 am to 10:45 am at the church. Her inurnment will occur at 3 pm on the same day at Green Hill Cemetery in San Jose, Illinois.
