Janis McCarten

Janis June McCarten, age 85, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 15, 2025, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL.

Born in Chicago, Janis carried with her the values of warmth, kindness, and quiet strength that touched everyone who knew her.

She is survived by her children, Linda (Jerry) Storer, Michael McCarten (Karen), Patrick McCarten and Peter McCarten. Her grandchildren, Anthony (Brittany) Fisher, Andrea (Brandon) Vietor, Jacqueline McCarten (Kevin Haynie), Katie (Andy ) Friedrick, Sam McCarten and Ryan (Britney) McCarten. She had four great-grandchildren, Mason, Cameron, Avery and Jackson, all of whom will continue to feel her love in countless ways. To her family, Janis was a steady presence—gentle, patient, and unfailingly loyal.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael McCarten, and her son, John McCarten.

She would want to express her gratitude to her caretaker, Jensenn Simpson for the endless hours she spent with her.

Her loyalty extended beyond family to her beloved Chicago Cubs, a devotion that brought her joy in every season. Whether in moments of triumph or long stretches of hope, she remained a faithful fan.

Janis will be remembered for her quiet calm, her kindness, and the way she made others feel cared for simply by being herself. Her family and friends will carry forward her legacy of love, loyalty, and gentleness.

At the request of Janis, a private graveside service is scheduled at Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington has been entrusted with arrangements. To share a memory or send a condolence to her family, visit www.masonfuneralhomes.com.
