Janet Sue Hoffer, 77, of Metamora, Illinois, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 13, 2026, in Metamora. She was born on July 7, 1948, in Kankakee, Illinois, to Henry and Mavis (Taylor) Basinger.
Janet married Eugene B. Hoffer on October 14, 1974, in Peoria, Illinois. He preceded her in death in 2014. Together, they built a life rooted in love, faith, family, and hard work, including many years farming.
Janet graduated from Methodist School of Nursing in Peoria, where she prepared for a career devoted to caring for others. She began her career as a registered nurse, a profession that reflected her compassionate nature and desire to help those in need. She later dedicated herself to her family and farm. She was a faithful member of St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church in rural Metamora and previously Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Peoria.
She was the eldest of nine siblings and is survived by her siblings Sandee Chenault; Dale (Brenda) Basinger; Ruth Sumner; Carol Basinger; Beverly (Duane) Giffin; and Linda (Brent) Dicker. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Carl Edward Basinger and Denzil “Buddy” Basinger; her sister-in-law Denae Basinger; and her brother-in-law Ivan Chenault.
Janet is lovingly remembered by her children, Ed (Amanda) Hoffer of East Peoria, Illinois, and Mary (Jason) Cabell of Metamora, Illinois. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Joey, Cole, Evan, Laura, and Owen. Janet cherished her grandchildren deeply and found great joy in their visits and in watching them grow.
Janet was a talented quilter whose beautiful creations will be treasured by her family and friends for generations. She found great happiness in sharing her gifts and expressing her love through her handiwork.
Janet will be remembered for her kindness, quiet strength, devotion to her family, and faith. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the family she loved so dearly.
