James D. Polk, 81, of Peoria Heights, IL, formerly of East Peoria, IL passed away at 2:00 am on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Cornerstone Rehab and Health Care, Peoria Heights, IL. He was born on April 28, 1933 in Cairo, IL to Monroe and Bertha (Horner) Polk. He married Shirley Smith. He then married Doris Denton. She survives. Also surviving are children Steve (Stephanie) Polk of Benson, AZ, Alan (Cheryl) Polk of Phoenix, AZ, Tracy (Everett) Frazier of East Peoria, and Donald (Marty) Polk of Indianapolis, IN; step-children Kenny (Sandy) Bolton, Maria (Denny) Gardner, Terry (Lynda) Bolton, David (Jenny) Orr all of East Peoria, Karen (Gary) Willms of Peoria Heights, and Rick (Tina) Orr of Lebanon, IL; nine grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Joshua, granddaughter Cassandra, four brothers, and four sisters. James was a Korean War Veteran in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the East Peoria American Legion Post #1115. He was a gage inspector for Caterpillar for thirty years, retiring in 1979. He enjoyed working with stain glass and wood working. He loved to fish, garage sales, his family and the Lord. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 1:00 pm at Mason Funeral Home Germantown Hills Chapel with Reverend David Coyle officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Cremation rites will be accorded and burial of ashes will be held at a later date.
