WASHINGTON...James "Pete" Palmer, 79, of Washington, passed away at 6:15 a.m., Saturday, November 5, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Pete was born on March 17, 1932 in Ridgely, Tennessee to James and Georgia Wiseman Palmer. He married Macle Walton in Peoria on February 18, 1954. She survives. Also surviving is one daughter, Lisa Binkley of East Peoria; two sons, Mike (Selma) Palmer of Metamora and Tony (Lisa) Palmer of Logansport, Indiana; one sister, Marie (Herman) Ballard of Toone, Tennessee; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. Prior to retirement Pete had worked as a supervisor for Wilson Foods in Monmouth. After retirement he continued working for an additional 13 years at the Washington Wal-Mart. He had served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Era and was a member of the Washington Viet Nam Veterans. Pete attended "The Chapel" on Sunday?s in Peoria. A celebration of Pete?s life will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Jeff Browning officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial of ashes will follow in Glendale Cemetery in Washington with military honors provided by the U.S. Army and the Tazewell Military Rites Team. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials for Pete may be made to VVI-Viet Nam Veterans-"The Bunker".
