James O. Holmes

James O. Holmes, 82, of Washington passed away Monday, April 2, 2018, at Washington Christian Village surrounded by his loving family.

Jim was born on July 16, 1935 in Sleepy Eye, MN, son of the late Clarence and Mary E Drennen Holmes. He married Linda D. Breymeier on May 11, 1957 in Peoria.

Surviving are his wife, their children, James (Becky) Holmes, Lori (Dave) Fuller, Scott Holmes, Steve Holmes all of Washington and Jeffrey (Corey) Holmes of Bakersfield, CA. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren Nikki, James, Erin, Shannon, Ross, Sean, Ben, Jen, Christopher, Felicia and Tanner. Also surviving are 9 great grandchildren Elijah, Haley, Kayla, Blake, Charlie, Clara, Hunter, Brantley, and Estella. Further surviving are three sisters, Olive Goldschmidt of Hutchinson, MN, Patricia Souba of Pekin, IL and Rosalie Stoller of Stevensville, MT. Three brothers Clarence, Marvin and Delbert and one sister Frannie Roberts preceded him in death.

A U.S. Navy Veteran he was honorably discharged in 1955. After his discharge from the Navy he relocated to Bartonville. Jim began his working career with Prudential Insurance and later in sales for automotive parts for many years retiring in 2001. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packer fan, an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting, camping, boating, golfing and in his earlier years was a Boy Scout Leader in East Peoria. He drew people in with outgoing personality and jokes. He was a best friend to all and will be forever in our hearts and missed by all who knew him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00am Friday, April 6, 2018, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington. Fr. Steve Willard will celebrate. Visitation will be from 5:00pm until 7:00pm Thursday, April 5, 2018, with a celebration of life to follow all at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington. Further visitation will be one-half hour prior to his mass on Friday. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be given to Make A Wish Foundation, American Diabetes Association or to American Legion Post 100, c/o Bill Maher Veterans Memorial Fund, P.O.
