James "Jim" D. Ryan

James D. "Jim" Ryan, 78, of Metamora, IL, passed away at 3:52 pm on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL.

He was born on September 5, 1945, in Hannibal, MO, to Cecil P. and Anna (Cox) Ryan. He married Carol "Susie" Strappe on September 11, 1965 in Elmwood, IL.

Surviving are his wife, Susie of Metamora; children, Maria (Mike) Warner of Metamora, Nicole (Lonnie) Yingst of Geneva, IL, and Julia Miller of Washington, IL; grandchildren, Matthew (Kate) Warner, Danielle (Andy) McCoy, Mark Yingst, Anna Yingst, Jack Yingst, Sam Yingst, Andrew Miller, Lucas Miller, Katelyn Miller, and Ella Miller; great-grandchildren, Jimmy Warner, Dahlia Warner, Lyra Warner, Zoey McCoy, and Baby Boy McCoy; and siblings, Terry (Shirlee) Ryan of Charleston, SC and C.C. Payne of Peoria. He was preceded in death by his parents and son Mark Ryan.

Jim worked as a quality control manager at Komatsu Mining System in Peoria for 50 years, retiring in 2013. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Metamora. He cherished his high school sweetheart and his family. He enjoyed any opportunity to get the family together, organizing annual trips to the Indy 500 for over 50 years, and family vacations every summer. For the last 23 years, the family has gathered at the Wilderness Club at Big Cedar Lodge. The family has grown from 12 in 2001, to 23 in 2023. Jim believed in 'Playing Hard and Resting Well'. His greatest joy was watching his family happy and having fun. He will be greatly missed by all those fortunate enough to know him.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father David Kipfer officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 am until mass time, also on Tuesday at the church. Burial will be held in St. Mary's Cemetery in Metamora.
