Jacqueline "Jackie" R. Strubhar, 83, passed away peacefully at 11:05 pm on Friday, September 5, 2014 at the home of her son in Washington. Jackie was born on October 26, 1930 in Peoria to Karl and Camilla (Schreckenberg) Martig. She married Vernon Strubhar, Jr. in Peoria on June 30, 1951. They celebrated almost 60 years of marriage prior to his death on November 11, 2010 in Washington. Among those surviving are two sons, Peter (Susan) Strubhar of Amherst, Virginia and Andrew (Lisa) Strubhar of Washington; two sisters, Gabrielle White of Carol Stream, IL and Jeannette Thiessen of Olalla, WA; twelve grandchildren, Heidi (Ben) Satterfield, Joshua Strubhar, Heather Strubhar, Jacob (Megan) Strubhar, Anna Strubhar, Joel Strubhar, Lydia Strubhar, Aaron Strubhar, Marc-Andrew Strubhar, Magdalyn Strubhar, Joanna Strubhar, and Elaina Strubhar; and two great-grandchildren, Gavin and Evie. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Peggy Schaeffer, Dora Demmin and Charlotte Runkel. Jackie was a floral designer and for many years owned and operated The Flower Box in Washington and had also been a designer for Baurer Furniture. She also had taught art at ICC and various craft shops in the Washington area. Jackie also helped in the family business, Strubhar & Sons Plumbing and Heating. Jackie and Vern had volunteered for many years at Camp Good News, she was a member of the Tole & Decorative Painters Society and had been one of the painters for the mural for the Washington Sesquicentennial. Jackie had been a long time member of Calvary Evangelical Mennonite Church in Washington and will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt to her family. She received much joy using her gift of hospitality, opening their home to their many friends and family. The family would like to thank all the caregivers and friends that assisted them in caring for Jackie these last few months. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am at Calvary Evangelical Mennonite Church, Washington on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 with Pastor Ken Sistrunk officiating. Burial will follow in Glendale Cemetery, Washington. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 8, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Mason-White Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church.
