Jacqueline "Jackie" Berniece Kinsinger, 93, passed away on Friday, June 7, 2024, as a resident of Lutheran Hillside Village in Peoria for the last 2 ½ years. She was a lifelong resident of Washington, IL.
Jackie was born on July 31, 1930, in Peoria to Clifford and Gladys Roehm of Washington. She married Lyle Pfeffinger on March 21, 1951. They had five children. Upon Lyle's passing in 1965, she married Larry Kinsinger on July 19, 1969, in Washington, to whom she remained married until his passing in 2010. Upon her marriage to Larry, she gained five wonderful stepsons.
Jackie is survived by four children: Cynthia (Charles) Rush of Denver, CO; Lyle Clayton "Clay" (Rhonda) Pfeffinger of Palatka, FL; Melinda (Steve) Hartseil of Largo, FL and Cheryl (John) Marchini of Washington; three step-sons Danny (Cheryl) Kinsinger of Washington, Malcolm (Debbie) Kinsinger of Frederick, MD; and Lee (Laurie) Kinsinger of Washington. Further surviving are 6 grandchildren, 12 step grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Jackie also leaves behind two of her closest double partners, Bev Schmidt and Esther Emert.
Jackie was preceded in death by her parents: one daughter, Susan Hornung of Bartonville, and two step-sons, Michael Kinsinger of Lafayette, IN, and Paul Kinsinger of Washington. Four siblings: Richard Roehm of Morton, IL; Clifford Roehm of Peoria, IL; Ted Roehm of Rockford, IL; and Sandra Moore of Washington.
Jackie graduated from Washington High School and then attended beauty college. She was a hairdresser for the prestigious Block and Kuhls in downtown Peoria and later in downtown Chicago when her husband Lyle was stationed in the Marine Corps. Her real job was raising seven young kids (the oldest three boys were grown and out of the house), keeping the house clean, and cooking every meal from scratch.
Jackie was a strong independent woman not afraid to be herself. She could often be seen walking, biking, on her yellow Schwinn, or just picking up sticks and leaves in her yard. Jackie never met a sport she didn't like and was a long-time member of River City Athletics in Peoria (playing doubles tennis until the age of 83) and Five Points Washington. Jackie was a lifeguard and loved to be in the water, swimming laps. She was a member of Calvary Community Church and St. Mark's Lutheran Church, both in Washington. She volunteered at the Lutheran Home in Peoria. She loved singing in the Calvary Community Church choir and in a gospel group, the Ecu Keys. She loved her Chicago Cubs, bus trips, and seeing musicals.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service is scheduled for 11 am on Friday, June 14, 2024, at Calvary Community Church. Pastor Clayton Tinervin will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to her service. A private burial will be at Glendale Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Lutheran Hillside Village.
