WASHINGTON - John G. "Jack" Fandel, 90, of Washington passed away at 11:20 p.m. Friday, January 13, 2017, at UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria. He was born on December 30, 1926, the son of Leo and Lydia Kiesewetter Fandel. He married Ruth Losher on July 29, 1950, at Lourdes Church in Germantown Hills. She passed away on September 6, 2015, in Washington. He was also preceded in death by 3 brothers and four sisters. Surviving are two sons, Greg (Alberta) Fandel of Germantown Hills and Mark (Debbie) Fandel of Pekin, IL. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Doug (Angie) Fandel, Karl (Maureen) Fandel, Bonnie (Travis) Engstrom, Nicholas (Leslie) Fandel and Laura (Clint) Gossmeyer; along with ten great-grandchildren. Further surviving are three sisters, Agnes Parr and Marcella Obery both of Metamora, and Suzy (Jack) Hoffman of Germantown Hills; one brother, Donald "Doc" (Joan) Fandel; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Jack was an honorably discharged U.S. Army veteran. He farmed part-time with his brother, "Doc," on the family farm, along with working at Caterpillar Tractor Company, retiring with 44 years in plant security and fire inspection. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington. Jack was a member of American Legion Post 89 in Metamora. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington, with recitation of the Rosary at 9:30 a.m., also at the church. Burial will follow his Mass, and will be in Hillcrest Memory Gardens, south of Washington. Memorials for Jack may be directed to St. Patrick Catholic Church.
