Irene Ruth Coon, 105, of Chillicothe, formerly of Sebring, Fl and Washington, IL passed away 8:35pm, Friday May 27, 2022, at Unity Point Health Methodist in Peoria, IL.

On February 25, 1917, she was born in Peoria the daughter of Mellivilin and Edith Britton Sorenson.  She married William S. Coon Sr. on December 24, 1952, in Peoria.  He passed away on October 13, 2009, in Sebring, FL.  One son William S. Coon Jr one brother Mel Sorenson and one sister Edith Wright Olson all preceded her in death.

Surviving are one daughter Sue Brooks of Chillicothe, Il; six grandchildren Brian (Tara) Brooks of Bethalto, IL, Daniel (Joni) Brooks of Chillicothe, IL, Mike (Vicky) Brooks of Peoria,  David Coon and Meredith Coon both of New York City and Steven Coon of Florida. Also surviving are five great grandchildren.

Irene was a member of Sunnyland Christian Church in Washington.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 am Monday, June 13, 2022, at Historic Springdale Cemetery in Peoria. There will be no visitation.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be given to the American Cancer Society.
