Herman Dale Thompson

Herman D. Thompson, 91, of Metamora, Illinois, formerly of Peoria, Illinois, went home to his Lord Wednesday, December 23, 2020. He was born June 17, 1929 in Pierce, Kentucky to Dalert D. and Tranny (Curry) Thompson. He married Mariana Trovillion on July 1, 1951. He graduated from Green County High School, Campbellsville University and from Bradley University, a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He served two years in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. He worked thirty-seven years at Caterpillar, Inc., in the Treasury Department.

A member of Woodland Baptist Church in Peoria since 1949, he served as a deacon for forty-six years. With a heart for senior adults, he provided transportation, home and hospital ministry to countless people. He provided many years of support to immigrant families from Korea, Lebanon, and Pakistan, helping them adjust to life in America. He and Mariana opened their home to care for three Pakistani children for a year. He enjoyed fishing, basketball, and baseball, and he managed the church softball team. He was a loyal fan of Kentucky basketball and Cubs baseball.

Herman is survived by his children, Michael (Jan) Thompson, Ames, Iowa, Steve (Linda Jacobsen) Thompson, McLean, Virginia, Martha (Alan) Hahn, Sun City Center, Florida, Pat (Dan) Newsum, Phoenix, Arizona, and Terry (David) Walker, Caledonia, Illinois; fifteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and his sister, Shirley Maze, De Soto, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his sister, Doris Thomas, and his brother, Herley Thompson.

A Graveside Service for the family will be held at a later date, with interment at Prospect Cemetery in Hodgeville, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Woodland Baptist Church of Peoria, 6915 North Allen Road, Peoria, IL 61614. Arrangements by Mason Funeral Home of Metamora.
