Herbert S. Lindahl , 94, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2018, at his home in Danville, Illinois.

Herb was born on July 3, 1923 in rural Benton County, IA to Hugo F. and Emmy (Bengtson) Lindahl. He married Mary Ann Falk on April 17, 1950 in Essex IA. She preceded him in death on September 21 2012. Also preceding him in death were his parents, his two brothers; Harold and Alvin and his daughter-in-law Bobbi Lindahl.

He is survived by his four children, Bruce Lindahl of Danville, Larry (Diana) Lindahl of Washington, Nancy (Mic) Ester of St. Louis, MO and Craig (Sue) Lindahl of San Ramon, CA. ten grandchildren; Tony Lindahl, John Antrobus, Amy Campbell, Karen Doering, Michael Lindahl, Elena Lugo, Aaron Lugo, Allison Gomes, Jon Lindahl and Mark Lindahl and seven great grandchildren; Norah Lindahl, Isabella Alexander, Adam Alexander, Ben Campbell, Tucker Doering, Owen Lindahl and Carter Lindahl.

Herb was proud to have served his country as a petty officer in the quartermaster corps of the battleship USS Iowa throughout the entirety of her deployments in WWII, including witnessing the signing of the peace treaty with Japan in Tokyo Bay. After the war he returned home to complete his pursuit of a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at Iowa State University. Always a creative problem solver, over the course of his career as a heat transfer engineer for Bohn Aluminum and Brass Corporation in Danville his work led to international travel, the granting of numerous U.S. and international patents and to the idea that kiwi production could be commercially successful in America.

In retirement, he took up kiwi and strawberry farming for the next 22 years in Holly Hill S.C. Always a strong supporter of his church, he was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Danville and a founding member of Hope Lutheran Church in Vance, S.C.

Funeral services will be 12 noon, Saturday, April 7, 2018, at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington, IL. Pastor Dan Doering officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to his service also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Washington.
