Henry Baldwin "Bud" Tanton

Henry Baldwin "Bud" Tanton, 94, of Eureka, IL passed away at 10:50 p.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at the Apostolic Christian Home of Eureka. He was born on May 30, 1923 in Peoria, IL to Glenwood C. and Cecilia B. (Ward) Tanton. He married Mary Elizabeth McClellan on August 26, 1950 in Delavan, WI. She survives.

Also surviving are children, Chuck (Sue) Tanton, Metamora; Steve (Maria) Tanton, Cazenovia; Barbara Reierson, Elko, NV; Susan (Jim) Swanson, Eagan, MN; Bud Tanton, Jr., Bloomington; Jim (Donna) Butler, Crawfordville, FL; fourteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and his sister, Charlotte Bash, Champaign, IL.

Bud was a U.S. Navy and Army Air Corps Veteran serving in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois and a life-long farmer, teaching agriculture classes for the U of I Cooperative Extension Service after the war. Bud was an elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Peoria and was also a member of The American Legion, VFW, Freemasonry, Delta Phi Fraternity, was a 4-H leader and was a candidate for the Illinois General Assembly. He served on various boards of directors, including the American Dairy Association of Illinois, Peoria Area World Affairs Council, Woodford County Board, Woodford County Board of Review, Tri-County Regional Planning Commission, Metamora Grade School and BroMenn Hospital.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A Private Family Memorial Service will be held at 5:00 pm on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Mason Funeral Home, Metamora Chapel with Pastor Doane Brubaker officiating. Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until service time on Saturday at the funeral home. A private family burial will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday at Oakwood Cemetery in Metamora. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Apostolic Christian Home of Eureka, 700 West Cruger Road, Eureka, IL 61530 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
