Hazel M. (Meyer) Steelman

Hazel M. Steelman, 79, of Washburn, IL passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2022 surrounded by her family. She is no longer in pain and will be reunited in eternity with her love, J.R. Alexander. She was born on January 5, 1943 to the late Ernest and Marjorie Meyer in Flat Rock, Michigan.

Hazel is survived by her daughters Shelly Joiner of Washburn, IL, Margie (Rusty) DeLap of Metamora, IL, Hazel Haycraft (Gary Rushing) of Hickory, KY, Marty Blumenshine (Jim Keown) of Washburn, IL, and Billie Jo Blumenshine of East Peoria, IL and son Adam (Sara) Blumenshine of Creve Coeur, IL. She leaves behind to cherish her memory twenty-one grandchildren, thirty-eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild due in December. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, one daughter, three sisters, four brothers, and two granddaughters.

Hazel retired from OSF St. Francis Mother House in Germantown Hills. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She would never pass up a good garage sale, always finding a good deal. She was known for her extreme love of animals, taking in many rescues throughout her life. Hazel loved attending the annual Meyer Family reunion and would always have her dogs in tow.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at Mason Funeral Home Metamora Chapel.  Graveside services will follow at 12:30 pm at Glendale Cemetery in Washington, IL.  The family invites anyone who knew their beloved mother and grandmother to a dinner at the American Legion Post 100, 211 Legion Road, Washington following the graveside service.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in Hazel's name may be made to your favorite no-kill animal shelter.  Online condolences at www.masonfuneralhomes.com.
