Harold Lynn Dye

June 28, 1951 — April 30, 2024

East Peoria

Harold Lynn Dye, 72, of East Peoria, IL, passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at his home.

He was born on June 28, 1951, in Peoria, IL, a son of Harold J. Dye, a World War II veteran, and Martha L. Greening.

During his youth he worked at the Garber's service station, and upon graduation followed in his great-grandfather's  footsteps working on the TP&W Railroad.  He later started an apprenticeship at Caterpillar working as a prototype machinist.  During the Caterpillar layoff, he moved to California to work at FMC.  While at FMC, he was proud to support the military by making modification to the Bradley Fighting Vehicle to make it more survivable during the IRAQ war.  He started his family with Bonnie Harvey and her two daughters, Kathleen and Amelia. He then returned to Illinois to finish his career with Caterpillar and to be close to his parents.  Shortly after his arrival, Bonnie and Lynn gave birth to Heather.

Lynn cannot be described in easily defined terms. He was friendly to everyone but had few close friends.  He loved his family devotedly but could sometimes be contentious.  He loved to start a new project but was often distracted in the end. He often took people into his home showing his selflessness.  He loved to travel going to the Carribean, Europe, Mexico, Canada, and Australia. Lynn believed in the bible but had his own theology. Lynn can be described as a bigger than life personality.

Surviving are his three daughters, Kathleen Luman of East Peoria, IL, Amelia (Tom Kuhns) Harvey of Peoria, IL, and Heather Dye of Danville, IL; one sister, Nancy Underhill of Centreville, VA; three nephews, Anthony Underhill, Jared Woolworth, and Steven Woolworth; one niece, Angela Martens; four great-nephews; and three great-nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Sheila Woolworth.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, May 10, 2024 at Spring Bay Cemetery in Spring Bay, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to TAPS, 100 Taps Lane, Pekin, IL 61554. Online condolences at www.masonfuneralhomes.com.
