Harland William Sluga

Harland William Sluga, 100, of Metamora, IL, passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL.

He was born on June 4, 1926, in Metamora, IL, to William and Ida (Elbert) Sluga. He married Nola Irene Clouse on January 21, 1950, in Metamora.

Surviving are his wife, Irene of Metamora; son, Michael (Carla Turner) Sluga of Metamora; daughter, Angela (Kevin) Lawless of St. Charles, MO; grandchildren, Tyler (Hanna) Sluga and Molly Sluga; great-grandchildren, Harrison and Waylon Sluga; and brother, Myron Sluga of Pekin, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, James Sluga of Yates City, IL.

Harland was employed at Caterpillar for 41 years after various management assignments, last as staff engineer in the Morton parts department before his retirement in 1985. He was a past member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.

He was a life-time member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Metamora, a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3060 in Metamora and a fourth-degree member of the Spalding Assembly 206 in Peoria, as well as a member of Alhambra Zirab 52.

Harland served three terms on the Metamora Village Board, also serving several years on the Metamora Village Planning and Zoning Board. He was a past member of the St. Mary’s Men’s Club, the Antique Auto Club for owners of Ford Model “T”’s, and the Izaak Walton League of Metamora.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father David Kipfer officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until mass time at the church on Tuesday. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Metamora.
