Obituary

Guenn Lou (Johnson) Elbert, 93, of Metamora, IL, passed away at 9:32 pm on Sunday, October 27, 2024 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL.

She was born on September 15, 1931, in Galesburg, IL, to Almer T. and Leota Mae (Lutz) Johnson. She married Roland "Rocky" Elbert on March 22, 1952, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Metamora. He passed away on March 13, 1990.

Surviving are her five children: Sue (Bob) Wood, Jill (Jerry) Fisher, Greg "Rocky" (Hope) Elbert, and Gail Elbert all of Metamora, and Carolee (Dave) Bachman of Toluca, IL; eleven grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchidren; one sister, Jodi Rassi of Metamora; one sister-in-law, Doris Forney of Metamora; and two brothers-in-law, Allen Elbert of Sulligant, AL and Lynn Elbert of Metamora. She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandson Steve Fisher, and two brothers Ed Johnson and Dave Johnson.

Guenn was an amazing homemaker and loved having big family dinners making all the birthdays and holidays special. Her flower beds were always filled with beautiful flowers and she mowed her own yard well into her 80's. She also walked daily.

She was very involved in PTO at St. Mary's School and she and Rocky brought back the tradition of having the Old Settler's Food Tent when they moved back from Texas after being transferred for three years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and active in the Altar and Rosary Society as well as Legion Funeral Dinners, and Girl Scouts to name a few.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, November 4, 2024 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father David Kipfer officiating. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 9:30 am with visitation to follow until mass time. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Metamora. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation in her honor to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 415 West Chatham Street, Metamora, IL 61548 or to St. Mary's School, 400 West Chatham Street, Metamora, IL 61548.
