Gordon J. Finch, 88, of Metamora, IL passed away at 10:15 pm on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL.
He was born on June 2, 1933, in Peoria, IL, to John and Marcella (Rohman) Finch. He married Dorothy Stock on September 15, 1956 in Kinmundy, IL.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy of Metamora; four children, Sandra (Martin) Linn of Spring, TX, Lisa (John) Obery of Metamora, Larry Finch of Florissant, MO, and Garry (Joanna Venegoni) Finch of Morton, IL; nine grandchildren, Whitney (Garret) Blunier, Morgan (Grant) Reckling, Scott Linn, Sara Linn, Katherine Finch, Claire Finch, John Finch, Olivia Finch, and Isabella Finch; five great-grandchildren, William and Annie Blunier and Wrenn, Maren, and John Wyatt Reckling; six siblings, Bonnie Meismer, Carol (Barney) Beoletto, Diane Cawley, Eldon (Andrea) Finch, Brenda Knight, and Denise Held; and sister-in-law, Rita Finch. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Duane Finch, sister, LaVeda Davies, and brothers-in-law, Dick Meismer, Mike Cawley, Mike Held, and Dave Davies.
Gordon was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was a graduate of Lowpoint High School. He worked and retired from Caterpillar and also had worked as a welder at both DMI and Ulrich's Products. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the American Legion Post 89.
Gordon never met a stranger and always had a smile on his face. He loved being around and talking to everyone and always had a story to share. Gordon was a huge Metamora Redbirds sports fan and loved his St. Louis Cardinals. He lived for his yearly fishing vacations at Kimp's Kamp on Dead Lake, Dent, MN. He enjoyed following his children and grandchildren in their sports and other activities.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, February 11, 2022 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Vien Van Do officiating. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 4:30 pm on Thursday, February 10, 2022 with visitation following from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Mason Funeral Home Metamora Chapel. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Metamora with military honors accorded by the American Legion Post 89. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Mary's School, 415 West Chatham Street, Metamora, IL 61548 or to the Snyder Village Residents in Need Fund, 1200 East Partridge Street, Metamora, IL 61548.
