Gordon Crossman

Gordon Carlyle Crossman, 85, of Washington, IL, passed away at 11:56 AM on Monday, January 22, 2024, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL.

He was born on June 13, 1938, in Peoria. Gordon was the son of Benjamin and Beulah DuVall Crossman. He married Evelyn Sweeney on March 21, 1959, in East Peoria. She passed away on December 19, 1996. Gordon later married Carol Robison Roberts on July 17, 1998, in Pekin.

Surviving are his wife, one son, Ivan Crossman of Pekin, IL; two daughters, Lee Ann Crossman of Nashville, TN, and Ellen (Jeff Cordell) Crossman of Rockvale, TN. Also surviving are one stepson, John (Trudy) Roberts of Colorado Springs, CO, and one stepdaughter, Adelia (Kevin Copeland) Walker of Peoria. Further surviving are two grandchildren, Emily Neagle and Jacob Neagle, and three step-grandchildren, Jeremy Roberts, Parker Roberts, and Jaccob Walker. He was preceded in death by one son, Craig A. Crossman, and one infant son, Scott A. Crossman.

Born to a family that valued hard work and perseverance, He carried these principles throughout his life. He dedicated many years of service to the Caterpillar Tractor Company as a skilled electrician, retiring in 1998. His colleagues remember him for his professional expertise and his ability to lighten the mood with a well-timed joke or a funny story.

Gordon's passions extended far beyond his work. He had a profound love for restoring antique vehicles, a hobby that allowed him to breathe new life into relics of the past. His hands, constantly skilled and steady, worked meticulously to ensure that each car gleamed as brightly as it did in its heyday. Camping and RVing were also among his favorite pastimes, activities that combined his love for the outdoors with the comfort of a home on wheels. His adventurous spirit found solace under the stars, surrounded by the tranquility of nature.

A fan of country western music, Gordon often hummed along to his favorite song, "Boot Scootin' Boogie" by Brooks and Dunn. His love for music was infectious, and he never missed an opportunity to share this passion with his friends and family. He was also a collector of unique treasures, from two-dollar bills to antique coal mine lanterns, each holding a special place in his heart and home.

Above all, he was a family man. He invested wholeheartedly in his children's hobbies and was a constant figure at every milestone and achievement. His love and support were unwavering, and his legacy lives on through the lives he touched.

A funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 AM on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington. Visitation will be on Monday, January 29, 2024, from 5 PM until 7 PM, also at the funeral home. Burial will follow his service at Glendale Cemetery in Washington.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
