WASHINGTON...Gladys E. Thompson, 88, of Metamora, formerly of Washington, passed away at 2:15 p.m., Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. Gladys was born on August 8, 1924 in Villa Ridge, Illinois to Ora and Alice (Buckles) Hughes. She married Thomas E. Thompson in Mounds, Illinois on August 23, 1946. Tom died on September 7, 1986 in Danville. Among those surviving are two daughters, Thoma Mehl of Dunlap and Alice (Rev. Gordon) Tennis of New Hope, Minnesota; four sisters, Vivian Etheridge of East Peoria, Ruth Brown of Sturtevant, Wisconsin, Jean Hulsey of Lebanon, Missouri and Vera (Jim) Kent of Joplin, Missouri; three grandchildren, Christine (Jason) Winchester, Spencer Tennis and Evan Tennis and three great granddaughters, Devon, Rhys and Shea Winchester. Gladys was a member of the First Baptist Church in Washington and had been active in the Washington Senior Center prior to moving to Metamora. Private family graveside services for Gladys will be held at Glendale Cemetery in Washington with her son-in-law, Rev. Gordon Tennis officiating. Mason-White Funeral Home is assisting the family in arrangements. Memorials for Gladys may be directed to her church.
