Gerald "Jerry" L. Martin, 57, of Germantown Hills passed away unexpectedly at 12:36am on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 in the Emergency Room of OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was born on November 13, 1955 in Mason City, IA the son of Gene A. and Shirley J. Brown Martin. He married Pamela K. Plueger on August 27, 1977 at St. James Catholic Church in LeMars, IA. Surviving are his wife, their two children Tom Martin of Germantown Hills and Melissa Martin of Chicago; one grandson Robert "Bobby" James Martin. Also surviving are his parents of Albion, IA; one sister Denise (Randy) Gibbons of Breckenridge, CO; two brothers Larry (Trisha) Martin of Box Elder, SD; and Terry (Tina) Martin of Bolivar, Mo as well as many nieces and nephews. He worked for Dean Foods for many years as a sales representative. Prior to Dean Foods he worked for Wells Blue Bunny for 27 years. Jerry loved to bowl and an occasional round of golf. He was a stockholder in the Green Bay Packers, and was an IHSA certified referee and umpire in the Peoria area for many ASA softball games. All those who knew his cooking abilities considered him a master chef. The joy of his life was to take a ride on his Harley with his wife and spending time with his grandson. Jerry had a hard work ethic, which he instilled into his children. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10am Monday, October 21, 2013 at St. Mary of Lourdes Church in rural Metamora with Fr. Neri Greskoviak celebrating. Visitation will be Sunday from 2pm until 4pm at Mason Funeral Home in Germantown Hills with recitation of the Rosary at 1:30pm. Burial will be in St. Mary of Lourdes Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the family to be given to a charity of their choice.
