George M. Scherr, 72, of Washington passed away at 6:10 am on Monday, October 13, 2014 at his residence. He was born on September 8, 1942 in rural Fairbury, Illinois to Earl F. and Anita N. (Dart) Scherr. He married Lois E. Hodel on December 27, 1964 in Chenoa, IL. She survives. Also surviving are three children Douglas (Barb) Scherr of Washington, David Scherr of Peoria and Deborah (Shawn) McVey of Normal; 3 grandsons; 1 granddaughter; a soon-to-be great-granddaughter; brother Charles "Leroy" (Diane) Scherr of Downs, IL; two sisters Betty Hostetter of Chenoa, IL and Doris (Allen) Reiners of Odell, IL; and two nieces and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew, Chad Hostetter. George was a 1960 Fairbury/Cropsey high school graduate. He served in the U.S. Army Corps Engineers in Vietnam War from 1964 ? 1966. He retired from the Rock Island Arsenal after 25 years of service to the Department of Defense. He enjoyed driving cars for Uftrings after retiring. He enjoyed traveling, motorcycling and playing chess. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 17, 2014 at 11:00 am at Mason White Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor John Bates officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 ? 7:00 pm and also one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memory Gardens, rural Morton where military rites will be accorded. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to OSF Hospice or American Cancer Society.
