George E. Hicks, 80, of Germantown Hills, IL, passed away at 4:59 am on Monday, August 26, 2024, at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL.
He was born on April 20, 1944, in Pontiac, MI, to Glen and Hilda (Clancy) Hicks (both deceased). He married Joanne Hoerr on July 21, 1978 in Peoria, IL.
Surviving are his wife, Joanne of Germantown Hills; sons, Christopher Hicks of Topanga, CA and Matt (Liz) Hicks of Denver, CO; granddaughter, Rosalie Hicks; sister, Pam (Tom) Francis of Jacksonville, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepdad Bucky Weber.
George was often reserved, but with a glass of scotch in hand, he became everyone's friend. His knowledge of cars, especially Porsches, was unmatched, and he had loved going to races at Road America. Back in the day, George and Joanne were regulars at the Ivy Club, where he loved sailing his boat, Hot Sheets, with his friends. George was not only a dedicated Design Engineer and Purchaser at CAT for 35 years, a moto racer, and a car enthusiast but also a loving Husband, a proud Dad, an ecstatic Grandfather, an older Brother, and a great friend to many. You can now find him in Heaven, sitting in his red chair with his dogs, and watching a race.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at Willow Hill United Methodist Church in Germantown Hills with Pastor Nicole Cox officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home, 8630 State Route 91, Peoria, IL 61615 or to a charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences at www.masonfuneralhomes.com.
