Gary Crotts

Gary Don Crotts, 69, of Washington, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the Richards L. Owen Hospice Home in Peoria, Illinois.

He was born on April 25, 1956, to Edward and Vivian Johnston Crotts. He was preceded in death by both parents, his brothers, Keith and Dale, and an infant sister, Peggy. His sister, Julie Rogers, survives.

Gary graduated from Washington High School and Illinois Central College, later working and retiring from Caterpillar after 30 years in the Data Center. He married Wendy Mullen in 1978. Of all his achievements, Gary's greatest joy were his children Kimberly (Keith) Morris and Grant (Jennifer) Crotts. Gary's grandchildren, Landon, Ellie, and Griffin, made him a "Papa" which was a role he treasured. Gary also had several nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.

Gary was nicknamed the "Chicken Man" after gaining a lifelong love of them from summers spent on his grandparent's farm. He amassed a vast variety of collectible chickens and even had a small hobby farm. Gary was a passionate Illini basketball fan and never missed the chance to cheer on his beloved Green Bay Packers.

Gary had several wonderful friends. The family would like to express their appreciation to Dennis Fugh for his devoted care and support over many years, Adrian Paenza who loved him like a brother, and Steve Wilson who was a loyal friend.

Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life in the Faith Church Commons, 2354 Hollands Grove Rd, Washington, on Thursday, February 26, 2026. Visitation will begin at 6 PM followed by a eulogy and time of remembrance at 7:30 PM. A light meal will be served. Gary will be interred at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Tazewell County 4-H in honor of Gary's love of animals and nature.
