WASHINGTON?Floyd O. Butler, 88, of Washington, passed away peacefully at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria on Monday, February 10, 2014 at 4:30 p.m. Floyd was born on August 19, 1925 in Bemis, Tennessee to Oliver C. and Mary E. (Collins) Butler. He married Bettie Hendrix in Corinth, Mississippi on November 3, 1946 and together they celebrated over 67 years of marriage. He is survived by their two daughters, Lucy (Richard) Mahrt of Peoria and Phyllis (John) Quast of Goodfield; five grandchildren, Ryan Frye, Adam Frye, Stephanie Geddes, Amanda Quast and Amy Quast and seven great grandchildren. Floyd was also preceded in death by one sister. Floyd had served in the U.S. Merchant Marine of over 3 years as a quartermaster prior to going to work for Caterpillar in East Peoria. He retired after 37 years with Caterpillar in 1984 where he had worked as a fire inspector. He was a 50 year member of Modern Woodmen, had served as president of the Sunnyland Lions Club, was a past president of the Caterpillar Square Dance Club and volunteered for Northern Tazewell Fire Department for more than 20 years. Floyd also loved to play golf when he had the opportunity and was blessed to be included in the Peoria Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. this past year. Visitation for Floyd will be on Friday, February 14, 2014 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Mason-White Funeral Home with burial following in Glendale Cemetery in Washington where military rites will be accorded. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.
