PEORIA?Evelyn "Evie" Esken, 88, of Peoria, passed away peacefully at 7:10 p.m., Thursday, January 2, 2014 at her home. Evie was born on August 21, 1925 in Hammond, Indiana to John and Esther (Behary) Kish. She married Joseph F. Esken in Jackson, Mississippi on June 24, 1944 and they celebrated over 62 years of marriage together prior to his death on December 23, 2006. Among those surviving are their three sons, Frederick (Nancy) Esken of Bloomington, Mitchell (Margaret) Esken of Peoria and Gregory (Tammy) Esken of Washington; five loving grandchildren, Joel, Jonathan, Benjamin, David and Candace; her five special great grandchildren, Nicholas, Kylie, Emma, Zach and Brylee and her dear friends, Owen and Martha Schaub. Evie was preceded in death by four sisters and five brothers. Evie and Joe owned and operated Paramont Printing in Peoria for many years. Together the two of them enjoyed traveling, especially their winter trips to Mexico and during the summer on the Illinois River and time at the IVY Club where Evie could be found on most summer days working on her tan with her special pool girls. She was a member of the Daughters of Mokanna, the IVY Club, Abbas Grotto Pinochle Club, the Emblem Club 121 at Elks #20 and the Amvets Auxillary A celebration of Evie?s life will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Dick Hanson officiating. Burial will follow in Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Visitation for Evie will be after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Donations in memory of Evie may be made to the Daughters of Mokanna, Abbas Grotto Trustees or Mohammed Shriner?s Temple.
