Everett L. Birkey, 76, of Roanoke, IL passed away at 3:15 am on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Snyder Village in Metamora, IL. He was born on May 19, 1940 in Manson, IA to Dorance and Elsie (Horsch) Birkey. He married Verda L. Kennell on March 4, 1961 in Roanoke, IL. She survives. Also surviving are daughter Sharon (Alan) Schrock of Metamora; son Jim (Linda) Birkey of Roanoke; two grandsons Ryan Schrock of Metamora and Kole Birkey of Roanoke; brother Duane (Sherry) Birkey of Manson, IA; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Dorwin Birkey and Steve Birkey. Everett was employed as a truck driver most of his life, last working at Bell Enterprises, Inc. in Deer Creek, IL, where he retired. He was active on the Roanoke Fire Department for 25 years and had a hobby of attending classic car shows where he displayed his own classic car. He enjoyed playing his guitar and banjo and spending time with family and friends. Everett attended Cazenovia Mennonite Church where services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 2, 2017 with Reverend Dennis Kennell and Reverend Doug Hicks officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Mason Funeral Home Metamora Chapel in Metamora. Private burial will be in Roanoke Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Cazenovia Mennonite Church. Online condolences at www.masonfuneralhomes.com.
