Evelyn M. Turvill, 96, of Washington, IL passed away at 5:57pm, August 30th 2016 at the Apostolic Christian Home-Eureka. Evelyn was born June 13, 1920 in Bloomington, IL, the daughter of Richard and Pansy Lawyer Cook. She married Leonard W. Turvill and he preceded her death in 2001. She is survived by four children. Shirley J. Gerken (husband Paul) of Washington; Laurie K. Jones (husband Wendell) of Springfield, IL; Leonard W. Turvill, Jr. (wife Gretchen) of Washington, IL; and Richard L. Turvill (wife Sherri) of Orlando, Florida. Seven grandchildren: Donald Gerken (Gail), Katherine Nelson (Jason), Michelle Kelly (Brian), Darrin Jones, Megan Gallaway (Chris) Jennifer Frederich (Erik) and Bryon Cade (Denine). Eight Great grandchildren: Lauren Gerken, Christopher Gerken, Mackenzie Kelly, Patrick Kelly, Caden Kelly Amber Gallaway, Henry Frederich, and Maggie Frederich. She also leaves behind one niece and one nephew. Evelyn graduated from University High in Normal, IL. She worked beside her husband, Leonard, at Floors and Walls and the White Elephant. She was a dedicated mother and participated in her children's many activities including being a Girl Scout and Brownie Leader for many years. As a young girl she was a member of the Rainbow girls and later a guardian of Job's Daughters. She was an active participant of the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 115 being a Worthy Matron 3 times along with Daughters of the Nile. Evelyn was a die-hard Cubs fan and looked forward to them winning the pennant. She loved reading, embroidery, knitting, quilting, crocheting, needlework, sewing, bridge and pinochle. She quilted several quilts for her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the St. Marks' Lutheran Church in Washington for many years. A Funeral Service for Evelyn will be 10:30am Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington. Pastor Youngshim Pitcher will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30am until her time of service. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memory Gardens in rural Morton. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be given to St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
