Evelyn Marie Schaer, 96, formerly of Spring Bay, IL and Manor Care at Riverview in East Peoria, IL passed away at Washington Christian Village on Tuesday, August 8, 2017. She was born on September 9, 1920 to Sol and Louise (Speck) Winkler. She married John Schaer on January 25, 1941 at the Spring Bay United Methodist Church. He passed away on June 26, 2007 after 66 years of marriage.
Surviving are her son John (Judy) Schaer of Spring Bay; daughter Jeree (Wil) Rohman of Metamora; four grandchildren Kellie (Dennis) Clark and their daughter Trinity, Ken (Mardell) Schaer and their sons Alec and Grayson, Todd (Jill) Highfill and their children Tami (Marty) Vogel and their children; and the Rohman step-grandchildren and their families. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by son-in-law Steve Highfill, sisters Olga (Marion) Heck, Mabel (Art) Laible, Cecil (Gene) Moulton, Vesta Winkler, Lucille (Robert) Shottenkirk, and Estella (Willard) Newell, and brothers Norris (Ouida) Winkler, Russell (Willys) Winkler, Elmer (Dorothy) Winkler, and Walter (Clarice) Winkler.
Evelyn graduated from Woodruff High School in Peoria. She was a homemaker for most of her adult life doing some baking and decorating cakes. She was a fantastic wife, mother, grandma and 'auntie'. She worked a few years at Carson's department store in Peoria. She was a lifetime member of the RiversEdge United Methodist Church in Spring Bay where she sang in the choir for many, many years and taught Sunday School, making an impact on her students' lives. She was noted for sending cards containing gum. She had a great love for her God and especially for her family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at RiversEdge United Methodist Church in Spring Bay with Reverend Andrew Hopp officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until time of her service at the church. Burial will be in Spring Bay Cemetery.
