Evelyn L. Mccormick

September 19, 1930 — May 15, 2025

Washington, IL

Evelyn L. McCormick, 94, of Washington, IL, passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at The Loft Rehab of Eureka, IL.

She was born on September 19, 1930, in Mandan, ND, the daughter of Martin and Lillian Paulsen Carlson. She married Elmer L. McCormick on January 24, 1957. He passed away on April 14, 2005. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Cathy Jo Griffin, in 2013, and one brother, Eugene Carlson.

Surviving are her daughter Terrie (Del) Pecenka of Washington, five grandchildren, Eric (Kim) Pecenka, Christopher (Riane) Pecenka, Brittany (Nic Meller) Pecenka, Jennifer Griffin and Lindsey Griffin. Also, surviving are five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ellen (John) Welk of Addison, IL, and Marilyn Carlson of Eureka, IL.

Evelyn's days were filled with the simple pleasures that brought joy to her and those around her. A master of needlework, she created countless pieces of cross-stitch. Evelyn's hands were rarely still, as she found solace in the rhythmic motions of crocheting and sewing, that adorned the homes of her loved ones, each stitch a testament to her patience and skill.

Her afternoons were often spent with eyes glued to the television, following the suspenseful twists of her favorite soap opera, "General Hospital," or cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals with an enthusiasm that rivaled the most dedicated fans.

Evelyn's competitive spirit shone brightly during games of solitaire, pinochle, and Scrabble, where she was a formidable opponent and a gracious winner. The melodies of country music were the soundtrack of her life, providing a backdrop to her many hobbies, including her beloved collection of hummingbird memorabilia.

She relished every moment spent enjoying her grandchildren's games, eagerly watching JFL and NTRA Ball, and cherished the joyous celebrations of graduations, birthdays, and weddings. She also found delight in the excitement of the John Deere Classic Golf tournament, where the thrill of the game captivated her.

Above all, Evelyn's greatest joy was being steadfast in the lives of her grandchildren. Her legacy of love, laughter, and the value of family will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. Evelyn will be deeply missed, yet her spirit will continue.
