Eugene Bernard Hoffer

Eugene Hoffer, 90, of East Peoria, passed away on Friday, July 4, 2014 at 7:02 am at his home. He was born in Fondulac Township, East Peoria on December 2, 1923 to Edward and Louisa (Ferter) Hoffer. Eugene lived and farmed in the Spring Bay area all of his youth and adult life. He married Janet Basinger on October 14, 1974 in Peoria. She survives. Also surviving are son Edward (Renatta) of East Peoria; one daughter Mary (Jason) Cabell of Morton; five cherished grandchildren; one brother, Donald (Edith) Hoffer of East Peoria and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Albert (Alice) Hoffer, and sister Louise (Melvin) Kohl. Eugene was compassionate to animals and raised pure-bred Black Angus cattle, first with his father and later with his son. He was known for his strong work ethic and was proud of his German heritage. He loved to attend antique tractor and steam shows and was especially fond of vintage Allis Chalmers tractors. He was a member of the Woodford County Farm Bureau. Eugene was a member of St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church in rural Metamora and was previously a member of Sacred Heart Church in Peoria for 80 years. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 10:00 am at St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church, rural Metamora with Father Greg Jozefiak officiating. A prayer service will be held at 4:30 pm on Monday, July 7, 2014 at Mason Funeral Home Germantown Hills Chapel with visitation to follow from 5:00 pm till 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary of Lourdes Cemetery, rural Metamora.
