Eugene Benjamin Doering, 85, of Metamora, formerly of Peoria, passed away at 4:30 pm on Sunday, September 21, 2014 at Richard L. Owens Hospice Home, Peoria. He was born on January 7, 1929 in Kickapoo to Benjamin Franklin and Marie Elizabeth (Heinz) Doering, Jr. He married Gladys May Stephens on September 3, 1949 in Peoria. She survives. Also surviving are his children, Thomas (Darla) Doering of Chillicothe, Michael Doering of Bartonville, Ronald Doering of Washington, Robert (Mary Jo) Doering of East Peoria, and Deborah (Donald) Wilson of Peoria; fifteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; son-in-law Kim Davis of Elmwood; and one brother Harold (Beverly) Doering of Watchung, New Jersey. He was preceded in death by daughter Kathleen Davis, daughter-in-law Kathleen (Farrar) Doering, and brother Gerald Doering. Eugene was a U.S. Navy veteran and was co-owner of Doering Truck Parts in Peoria from June, 1971 to May, 1995. He was a former scout master for 15 years. He was on the Advisory Board for Mid-West Truckers Association in Springfield. He helped form Mid-West Maintenance Council Central Illinois. He was a member of St. Edwards Catholic Church, Chillicothe and the church?s mens club. He was an avid book reader, enjoyed taking cruises and loved fishing and spending time with family and friends. A private family mass will be held at St. Mary?s Catholic Church, Kickapoo with burial of ashes at St. Patrick?s Cemetery, Kickapoo.
