Ernie L. Stanley, 85, of Peoria, IL, passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born on April 16, 1940, in Peoria, the son of John and Pearl Fuller Stanley.

Surviving is his significant other Hazel Williams, with whom he made his home.  Also surviving are his daughters Julie (Mark) Baylor of Farmington, IL, Susan Stanley of Sparland, IL, Sandy (John) Mootry, of Dillon, MT; his son Stephen (Lyn) Stanley of Peoria, Michael (Alicia) Zilch of Groveland, IL, children from his previous wife.

Further surviving are grandchildren Dan (Jodi) Neptun, Sarah (Joel) Cooper, Bill Dorn, Phillip (Danye) Robbins, Zak (Kayla) Robbins, Constance (Skot) Cardin, Emily (Mark) Shults, Desirae Stanley, Felicia Stanley, and Sarah Mootry. He is further survived by 13 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews including Geary (Denise) Stanley and Gloria (John) Stear. He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters, Johnny Stanley, Irene Beach, and Ruby Stanley.

Ernie proudly served his country as a U.S. Marine, receiving an honorable discharge. His sense of duty continued in his civilian life, where he made a significant impact as a K-9 Officer with the Peoria Police Department. His partnership with his K-9 companions was a testament to his loyalty and teamwork, which he carried throughout his life.

After his time with the police department, Ernie transitioned to a role as a security officer at OSF St. Francis, where he was known for his vigilance and protective nature. He later brought his expertise to East Peoria High School, serving as a school resource officer and becoming a familiar, reassuring presence on campus.

Beyond his professional achievements, Ernie was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He cherished moments spent watching wildlife at the farm, a pastime that brought him peace and contentment. Ernie was also a helping hand to anyone in need, embodying the spirit of community and generosity. Above all, he valued the time spent with his family, creating memories they will hold dear forever.

Ernie's legacy is one of courage, service, and love. His unwavering commitment to his country, community, and family will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A funeral is scheduled for 6 pm on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington. Visitation will be 2 hours before his service. Cremation will follow his service with the inurnment of his remains at Fondulac Twp Cemetery in East Peoria at 11 am on Friday, May 30, 2025.
