Elsie was born on April 23, 1930 in Tazewell County to Jacob and Pauline Knapp Schaefer. She married Herman T. Uphoff in Emden on June 4, 1949. Herman died on January 23, 1985 in Peoria. Among those surviving are one daughter, Nora Uphoff of Washington; three grandchildren, Shanice and Christian Uphoff and Dawson Deal; three step-grandchildren; and seven step-great grandchildren. Elsie was also preceded in death by one son, Dale Uphoff; a step-daughter, Shirley Estes; two step-grandsons, one sister and one brother. Elsie was a 1948 graduate of Tremont High School. She was a member of Crossroads United Methodist Church in Washington and in her spare time enjoyed baking, working in the garden and crocheting. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Mason-White Funeral Home with Pastor Bob DeBolt officiating. Burial will follow in Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Visitation will be on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to Crossroads United Methodist Church.
