GERMANTOWN HILLS...Edith Mae Schertz Fauber Rentsch,90, formerly of Germantown Hills, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at 7:15 A.M. at Hawthorne Inn in Peoria. She was born November 2, 1921, at home in Washington, ILL. She was the daughter of Joseph Benjamin and Pearl Blanche (Imhoff) Schertz. She married Elmer Perry Fauber in Washington, IL on April 5, 1941. He died October 4, 1960. She later married Walter Rentsch in Washington, IL on January 14, 1967. He died July 6, 1988. She is survived by four children: Ronald E. Fauber of East Peoria; Carol S. (Nicholas) Hornickle of Peoria, Richard A. (Marsha) Fauber of Bartonville and Karen L. Fauber of St. Louis, MO. One daughter, Barbara J. died April 8, 1952. She has one granddaughter Andrea N. (JM Swinehart) Hornickle of LaGrange, IL, one grandson, Benjamin P. (Laura) Fauber of San Francisco, CA, three grandchildren, Brandon, Emma and Benjamin Hornickle of LaGrange, IL and many nieces and nephews. Edith is also survived by two sisters: Wilma Brentz of Farmington and Alta Gehrke of Lincoln, IL. and three stepdaughters survive: Helen Bates, Betty (Jim) Hawkins and Donna Kay (Larry) Barrett. Two sisters Verna Ternig and Gladys Schulz preceded her in death. She graduated from Washington High School. Edith worked on the family farm in East Peoria and later at Dove Equipment Company and Methodist Hospital Gift Shop. Edith was an enthusiastic quilter and maker of afghans. Dancing was a big part of her life from the 60?s until the past three years. Her schedule revolved around Fondulac and Itoo dances and the band concerts at Glen Oak and Metamora band shells. Edith was a member of Calvary Mennonite Church, 115 E. Jefferson, Washington, IL 61571. Pastor Ken Sistrunck will officiate at the Celebration of Life at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, March 9th at her church. Visitation will be from 4:30 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. Thursday, March 8th at Mason Funeral Home in Germantown Hills. Memorials may be made to the Building Fund at her church or to the Illinois Mennonite Historical and Genealogical Society, 675 State Route 116, Metamora, IL 61548. We are grateful for her dedicated caregivers at Hawthorne Inn: Linda, Norena, Monica and Vicki as well as her private caregivers Doreen and Tiffany.
