Earl Crawford

May 23, 1932 — March 7, 2024

Earl B. Crawford, 91, of Washington, IL passed away at his residence on Tuesday, March 5, 2024.

He was born on May 23, 1932, in Nevada, MO, a son of Hanson and Lula (Hambert) Crawford. He married Shirley Yates on March 20, 1953, in Corinth, MS. She preceded him in death on October 9, 2015, in Metamora. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Douglas Crawford.

He is survived by his children, Janet (Michael) Fandel of Magnolia, Steven (Lesley) Crawford, of Snellville, GA, Brian Crawford, of Washington and Julie Ferguson of Galveston, TX; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Born into a hardworking family, Earl learned the virtues of dedication and service early in life. His commitment to his country was evident through his honorable service from the U.S. Army. After serving his nation, Earl embarked on a remarkable career at Caterpillar Tractor Company, where he dedicated 47 years before retiring in 1997.

Beyond his professional achievements, Earl was a man of many interests and talents. Over 35 years, he skillfully built three homes, pouring his heart and soul into every nail and beam. His passion for antiquing and exploring flea markets was more than a hobby; it was a journey through history that he cherished deeply. Earl's honesty and willingness to lend a hand were well-known in his community, where he was always ready to support friends and neighbors.

An outdoor enthusiast, Earl relished spending time in the sun-soaked landscapes of Florida during the winter months, a tradition he enjoyed with his wife. His home in Nevada, MO, held a special place in his heart, symbolizing his roots and the simple pleasures of life.

In retirement, Earl discovered the joy of ballroom dancing with his wife. This hobby brought them closer and allowed them to create beautiful memories together. He was a familiar face at his grandchildren's sporting events, cheering them on with pride and enthusiasm. Independence Day was his favorite holiday for family, fireworks, and celebrating the freedom he bravely defended.
