Doug Magnuson

September 8, 1952 — October 13, 2015

Doug Magnuson, 63, of Eureka went to be with the Lord on October 13, 2015, at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
Doug was born to Jack and Betty Magnuson on September 8, 1952. He was a graduate of Washington High School and Bowling Green State University in Ohio. He married his wife, Sue, on June 5, 1982, and they enjoyed 33 years of marriage together. Doug is survived by his wife, Sue; his four daughters, Dorothy Magnuson, Meredith (Peter) Petrany, Marjorie (Zachary) Carter, and Laura Magnuson; his mother, Betty Magnuson; four siblings, John (Grace) Magnuson, Anita (Majed) Banjak, Marca (Ted) Lott, and Paul Magnuson; three grandchildren, Eli, Colby, and Avery; extended family; and friends. His father preceded him in death. Doug worked at Kimpling's Ace Hardware in Washington and made many meaningful connections there over the years. Doug loved his family and sacrificed his time and energy for them. He labored every year building a backyard ice rink for his girls to enjoy, shared his love of gardening, spent many hours cheering on his daughters at sporting events, and treated early risers to breakfast out with him. Most of all, Doug's family and friends remember him for how special he made people feel. During Doug's courageous battle with cancer, his favorite phrases were "Praise the Lord!" and "Praise God!" His primary goal in life was to point others to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The family would like to thank the staff at OSF Hospital and the Richard L. Owens Hospice Home for the exceptional care he received; and friends, family, and their church family at Bethany Baptist Church for their love and support. Services will be held on Friday, October 16, 2015 at 10:30 am at Bethany Community on Dutch Lane in Washington. Pastor Ritch Boerckel will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 pm to 7 pm Thursday, October 15, 2015, at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Memorials for Doug may be directed to the missions program at Bethany Baptist. SERVICES
