Dorothy E. Van Pelt

Dorothy E. Van Pelt, 92, formerly of 915 Birchwood Drive, Washington, Illinois, died at 10:01 am on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at the Saddleback Memorial Hospital in Laguna Hills, California. Dorothy was born on May 12, 1923 in East St. Louis, IL to Thomas J. and Margaret (Gaunt) Sturgill. She married Richard H. Van Pelt on April 16, 1945 in East St. Louis, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard and her sister Katherine. She is survived by one daughter, Diane Van Pelt of Mission Viejo, California; one son, Richard (Kathleen) Van Pelt of Satellite Beach, Florida; one grandson Thomas; and great-granddaughter Taylor. She is also survived by her niece, Carol Keebler and her children. She worked in the Army war effort during WWII before marrying Richard. After the war she dedicated her time to raising a family and Bridge Clubs. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Washington. Graveside services will be held on Monday, March 21, 2016 at 11:00 am at Glendale Cemetery in Washington, IL with Pastor Dan Doty officiating.
