Dorothy L. “Dottie” Crone, 94, of Metamora, IL, passed away at 2:48 pm on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at Snyder Village in Metamora.
She was born on July 15, 1932, in Peoria Heights, IL, to Jesse C. and Frances (Miller) Sanderson. She married John A. Crone on June 14, 1952, at the Treasure Island Naval Base in Oakland, CA. He passed away on March 3, 2008.
Surviving are her children, Gerald (Pam) Crone of Andrews, IN, Anita (Dale) Plautz of Huntley, IL, David (Claire) Crone of Peoria, IL, Steven (Lea) Crone of Roanoke, IL, and Karen (Todd) Doremus of Brighton, MI; ten grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Jeanette Griffith of Eureka, IL; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, grandson Michael Crone, and sisters, Helen Molter, Marcella Carty, Mildred Bailey, Eloise Filzen, and Patricia Shea.
Dottie graduated from the Academy of Our Lady in 1950. She was a homemaker to her family and a well-known seamstress in the Metamora area for many years. She moved to Snyder Village Retirement Center in 2007 where she took part in many activities and did volunteer work. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Metamora since 1963 and attended daily Mass for many years. She loved traveling the world and had spent time in most of the states, Alaska, Canada, Italy, Australia, England, Caribbean, France, Germany, Scotland, Wales, and more.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father David Kipfer officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until Mass time, also on Saturday at the church. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Mary’s School, 400 West Chatham Street, Metamora, IL 61548 or to Snyder Village Residents-In-Need Fund, 1200 East Partridge Street, Metamora, IL 61548.
