Dorothy L. (Craig) Hanson

Dorothy L. Hanson, 94, of Metamora, IL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at Snyder Village, the place she lovingly called home.

Dorothy was born on August 31, 1930, to Floyd and Pauline Craig. The eldest of six children, she grew up alongside her brothers Richard, Donald, Ron, Bob, and David Craig. Dorothy's parents and siblings all preceded her in death.

On February 24, 1952, she married the love of her life, John E. Hanson. Together they built a family and a life filled with love, laughter, and deep devotion. Dorothy was a proud and loving mother to her three children, Linda (Jim) Gilmore, John (Laurie) Hanson, and Steve (Robin) Hanson. She was also a cherished grandmother to seven grandchildren, Lisa (Mark) Riess, John (Destiny Purcell) Hanson, Jeff (Lauren) Hanson, Julie (Chris) Colomer, Zach (Karla) Hanson, Sarah (Matt) Glawe, and Jessica Bray and eight great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was known for her warmth, her kindness, and her unwavering care for her family. A natural caregiver, she dedicated herself to the well-being of those she loved. She also enjoyed doing hair for friends in the community—an expression of both her creativity and generosity.

The Hanson family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Snyder Village for the compassionate care and friendship they provided over the years.

Cremation rites have been accorded.  A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Christian Union Church in Metamora. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Pastor Gary Salm.
