WASHINGTON...Dorothy P. Cox, 90, formerly of Washington, passed away at 2:40 p.m., Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at Advocate Hospital in Eureka, where she received the most loving care. Dorothy was born on September 16, 1921 in Hugley, Illinois to Otto and Pearlie Brown Schmidt. She married Francis J. Cox on March 16, 1945 in St. Augustine, Florida. Francis preceded her in death. Among those surviving is one son, Rev. Danny F. (Carol) Cox of Decatur, Illinois; one daughter, Carol (Tony) Inzerillo of Bensonville, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth Johnson, Joshua Cox, John Meredith Cox, Jeremiah Cox, Jordan Cox, Joseph Inzerillo and Suzanne Inzerillo and five great grandchildren, Free Johnson, Gabriel Johnson, River Johnson, Gavin Cox and Olivia Cox and many loving nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Leroy and William Schmidt and one sister, Mildred Chonister. At her passing, Dorothy was a resident of the Maple Lawn Communities in Eureka where she leaves many loving friends. Prior to Dorothy?s retirement she had worked for many years in the St. Louis area for Famous Barr. She was very active in the Girl Scouts and the VFW in Collinsville. Dorothy was also a member of Crossroads United Methodist Church in Washington. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to all the friends of Crossroads for helping with Dorothy as well as Dr. Christopher Hughes for his unending support. Funeral services for Dorothy will be held on Friday at 4 p.m. at Crossroads United Methodist Church with Pastor Paul Walles and Pastor Tom Goodell officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Graveside services will be on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights with her son, Rev. Danny F. Cox officiating. Mason-White Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials for Dorothy may be directed to Crossroads United Methodist Church, Maple Lawn or St. Jude.
