Dorothy "Dot" Bernice Hayner Guedet, born January 9, 1916 in Sayre, Pennsylvania passed away at 11:20, Wednesday evening at Washington Christian Village at the age of 98. She was married to Don Guedet on March 22, 1940, in Bloomington, IL. Don preceded her in death in 1974. Dorothy had two brothers, Williard Hayner and Robert Hayner, and two sisters, Barbara Schroeder, and Mary Ellen Satter. All but Mary Ellen have preceded her in death. The Guedets moved to Washington in 1948 where Dorothy spent her early years working in the Methodist church as a Sunday School teacher; additionally, she was active in politics at both the local and national level. Her husband, Don, served as mayor of Washington from 1957 - 1965. Dorothy and Don spent their summers on their houseboat, "The Good Days," and fishing in Ontario. Dorothy enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends. Dorothy had one son, Terry Guedet, of Washington, Il., four grandchildren, Stephanie Guedet, Washington, Il; JJ Guedet (Grace) Washington, Il.; Mandy Stewart (Brad), Washington, Il; and David Day (Susan) of Denver, Co. She also has ten great grandchildren, Natalie, JJ, Ty and Dani Guedet,; Jordan Guedet, Jake, and Jackson Stewart; and Jack, Samantha, and Bridger Day. A service to celebrate Dot?s life will be held on Monday, June 9, 2014 at noon at Mason-White Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Gorby officiating. Burial of cremains will follow in Glendale Cemetery in Washington. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until time of service on Monday. Cremation rites have been accorded. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting all memorials be donated to Washington Rotary Foundation for the Washington tornado relief. The family would like to express their sincere thanks for the staff at Washington Christian Village for their compassionate care of Dorothy.
