Donnie A. Daugherty

September 8, 1937 — April 15, 2018

Donnie Alvin Daugherty, age 80, of East Peoria, passed away at 3:26pm, Sunday, April 15, 2018, at Heartland Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center in Peoria.

Donnie was born on September 8, 1937 in Willow Springs, Missouri to Harmon and Ollie Woolsey Daugherty. He married Myrtle K. Chin on July 10, 1958.

He is survived by four children Harmoney (the late Norman) Miller of East Peoria, Alvin (Robin) Daugherty of St Cloud FL, Melvin (Betsy) Daugherty of Peoria and Melody (Jeff) Cundiff of Naples FL. Also surviving are his grandchildren Luke (Brooke) Miller of East Peoria, Amy (Jarek) Palmer of Bloomington, Suzy Miller of East Peoria, Carla Trine of Florida, Donnie Daugherty of Florida, Dale Daugherty and Chalisa Ons of Florida, Olivia Daugherty and Omar Rodriquez of Florida, Sara Daugherty and Justin Anderson of Peoria, Courtney Ellis of Decatur. Also surviving are great grandchildren Nash Miller, Evin Daugherty, Alissa Daugherty, Khloe Daugherty, Sophia Daugherty, and Brady Anderson along with one sister Velda (Billy) Harrison of Blue Ridge, GA. His parents and one sister Sarah Arlene Daugherty Brown McCart of Mountain View, MO preceded him in death.

Donnie worked for Keystone Steel and Wire in Bartonville, IL for many years last working as a high lift crane operator. After retiring from Keystone, he loved to spend time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He enjoyed joking around, playing cards, and bowling with co-workers. Donnie loved to camp, fish, and treasure hunt with a metal detector. Donnie was a private, free spirit who had an amazing, selfless desire and ability to care for disadvantaged people. His sweet and loving disposition will be sorely missed by his family and all who knew him.

A special thanks to Pat Dunne for all of the help and caring for Donnie. The nurses and aides who cared for Donnie at Heartland are owed a debt of gratitude. Your hard work and dedication will never be forgotten.
