Donna Schifeling

Donna Jeanne Schifeling, 91, of Metamora, IL, passed away peacefully at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home at 9:51 AM on February 14, 2023. Donna was born to Russell and Ollie (Bragg) Amsler on May 8, 1931. She married George "Babe" Schifeling on November 1, 1952. He died on October 4, 2021. Her parents and one sister Jackie Righter also preceded her in death.

She is survived by three daughters, Julie Schifeling, Ann Herring, and Sue (Jeff) Oyer; three grandchildren, Lesley Oyer, Kyle Oyer, and Dan Herring. She is also survived by one sister Harriett Nora and numerous nieces and nephews.

Donna graduated as valedictorian from East Peoria High School in 1949. She worked in the insurance business for several years and then as a proofreader at the Metamora Herald. But the "work" that gave her the greatest joy was serving as a volunteer tutor at Metamora Grade School. As a teacher and friend shared, "She has a positive and lasting effect on so many young lives."

Donna enjoyed singing, shopping, and flowers and was an avid sports fan.

Cremation rights have been accorded. A private family service will be held at a later date.To celebrate Donna's love of education, memorials may be made to Metamora Grade School, Attn: Lisa Devore, 815 E. Chatham, Metamora, IL 61548. Please include "In Memory of Donna Schifeling" in the memo line. Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements.
