Don was born on October 29, 1945 and married Christina Scales in Ottawa, Illinois on May 8, 1976. Chris survives. Also surviving are their two children, Robert William (wife Julie) Saunders of Hinsdale and Elizabeth (husband Tony) Schofield of Washington; four grandchildren, Ethan, Hailey, John, and Andrew, and a sister-in-law, Kay Saunders of Washington. Don was preceded in death by one brother, Roger. Don retired in 2003 as a supervisor in the treasury department at Caterpillar, where he had been employed for 40 years. After Caterpillar, he worked part time at the Peoria RiverPlex for more than a decade. A graduate of Eureka High School, Don was a member of the National Monte Carlo Association, past director of the Metamora Civil Defense, and served on Emergency 116. He was a member of Crossroads United Methodist Church, where a memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, October 3, 2015. A memorial visitation will be held at Mason-White Funeral Home on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Peoria Area Toys for Tots.
