Don "Moose" Carl Remley

September 11, 1940 — September 26, 2023

Don C. "Moose" Remley, 83, of Metamora, IL, passed away at 2:10 pm on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at his home.

He was born on September 11, 1940, in Cazenovia Township, IL, to George and Bernice (Shaw) Remley. He married Marjorie D. Haycraft on October 6, 1958 in Lacon, IL.

Surviving are his wife, Marj of Metamora; children, Rodney Remley of Metamora, Don C. Remley, Jr. of Newburg, OR, and Pat (Monte) Winkler of Washburn, IL; grandchildren, Brandon (Danielle) Winkler of Lacon, IL, Marissa (Zach) Robison of Metamora, IL, Don (Brittnie) Remley of Tacoma, WA, and Elliott Remley of Germantown Hills, IL; eight great-grandchildren; and brother, Steve Remley of Lincoln City, OR. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Adam Remley, sister Shirley Hahn, and brother George Remley.

Don was a U.S. Air Force Veteran. During his time in the United States Air Force, he served as a military policeman with a K-9 unit. He worked as an electrician for Caterpillar Tractor Company for 31 years, retiring in 1995. Don served his community in Washburn as a volunteer fireman.

Don was a very skilled craftsman. He could build and fix anything, there was no job too big or small. Everything from dressers, a cedar chest, kitchen cabinets, even a house. In 1996, he and his wife moved to Dundee, Oregon, and he built their dream home. It was one of his greatest accomplishments. While in Oregon Don and Marj became hazelnut farmers, they had three orchards right in their front yard. Don loved Oregon so much, especially the lighthouses on the Oregon coast. He had such a big love for travel also. Don enjoyed traveling with his wife all across the United States and beyond. There are no words to describe how much he will be missed.

Cremation rites have been accorded. No services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Alzheimer's Association Central Illinois Chapter, 614 West Glen Avenue, Peoria, IL 61614. Online condolences at www.masonfuneralhomes.com.
