Dennis Earl Schmidt, 79, of Lowpoint, IL, passed away at 7:20 pm on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at Carle BroMenn Medical Center in Normal, IL.

He was born on May 15, 1943, in Milwaukee, WI, to Irwin E. and Charlotte (Kajawski) Schmidt. He married Karen Winters on December 6, 1980 in Peoria, IL.

Surviving are his wife, Karen of Lowpoint; children, Victoria Schmidt of Madison, WI, Jerome Schmidt of Jacksonville, FL, Stephanie (Shawn) Brunelle of Crossville, TN, and Jason Loftus of Leroy, IL; nine grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Jill Duden, grandsons Andrew Filson and Jake Loftus, and one sister.

Dennis worked as a union electrician for Germantown Electric. He was a member of IBEW Local #95 for 35 years and also a member of Oak Grove Church of the Brethen in Lowpoint. He loved building and racing drag cars.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, January 16, 2023 at Mason Funeral Home Metamora Chapel with Pastor Charles Buegel officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2023 from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm at the funeral home and also one hour prior to his service on Monday at the funeral home.
