Delores M. Kirkwood, 91, of Washington, IL, passed away on Friday, October 18, 2024, at the Loft Rehabilitation Center in East Peoria, IL.

She was born on August 20, 1933, in Peoria, the daughter of Menno and Lela Burden Schwarzentraub.

Surviving are two sons David (Mary Jean) Kirkwood of Aubrey, TX, and Steven Kirkwood of Bloomington, IL; grandchildren Krysten (Ryan) Tarter, Brett (Claire Ambrose) Kirkwood, and Jenna (Ben Smith) Kirkwood; one great grandson Cade Tarter; two brothers, Donald (Mary Margaret) Schwarzentraub of Norwalk, OH, and Ken (Betsy) Schwarzentraub of Sacramento, CA. and a host of nieces and nephews.

Delores is a proud graduate of Bluffton University in Bluffton, OH, where she earned her bachelor's degree in education. Her dedication to education led her to pursue and successfully complete her Master's degree in education at Bradley University.Delores was an elementary school teacher in Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois, last working at Lincoln Grade School in Washington.  She was a member of the National Education Association and a former member of Calvary Mennonite Church and currently attended Crossroad Global Methodist Church, both in Washington.  Delores enjoyed arts and crafts, painting, needlepoint, knitting and gardening.

Cremation rites have been accorded.  A graveside service is scheduled for 11 am on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at Glendale Memory Gardens in Pekin.  Pastor Danny Cox will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be given to Crossroads Global Methodist Church or to T.A.P.S.
